The good and correct use of emojis

They convey emotions globally, whatever the language. But many times they are used badly.

Emojis have become, in recent years, one of the strongest ways of expression among users. They show us feelings, emotions and generate new ideas for us.

These famous signs help us communicate and convey emotions globally, whatever the language. But it often happens that people use these icons incorrectly. Hootsuite gives us five keys so you can get more interaction when you use them:

  1. Show how you feel. Some emojis let you express how you feel, so it is essential to use them both in post´s and to reply to followers’ comments.

Important → keep the number of negative expressions (sadness, anger and others) to a minimum, although sometimes they are necessary.

  1. Use animals to express yourself. Sometimes using the same old faces can be a bit boring, so animal emojis can be a great alternative. Not only are they more neutral, they can also provoke more emotional reactions. Besides, each one of them has a specific meaning such as, for example, the lion that shows courage.
  2. Interact with your followers. It is important that they feel you are there, so it is good to interact with them and show them your excitement about some of their actions, even to give them support.
  3. Use emojis without excluding anyone. It is important that nobody feels excluded when you use any people icon; for this it is recommended to use the yellow option, this way it will be more inclusive and the message will reach all followers equally.
  4. Draw attention. If what you want is for posts to generate interest and be eye-catching, use unusual and fun emojis.
  5. Use emojis after the full stop. If you do not want to affect your message, the RAE recommends placing them after the full stop.

Today’s communication compared with the classic kind is changing. Since the aim is to achieve a balance between good use of language and good use of emojis, together with the formal and the informal, in order to reach optimal communication taking into account each brand’s code. Brands have to have their style and it is important to find the way to be empathetic with their audience, without losing freshness but also without losing personality.

Everything that is not forbidden is allowed.
