Mendoza, the new audiovisual hub
With Law 9058 now regulated, Barrio Bombal is on its way to becoming a creative district.

In a new chapter of “Mendoza, the new audiovisual hub”, we tell you where we stand.
Taking into account the new social distancing regulations, the easing measures that have been approved and the authorization of protocols for carrying out cultural activities, Mendoza has positioned itself as an ideal place for national productions and those from nearby countries.

How? With Law 9058 on the Development and Promotion of the Audiovisual Industry, regulated by the province’s Governor, Rodolfo Suarez. This law widens the productive matrix, generates identity, reinforces the region brand, positions us in the world, attracts investment, encourages development and generates employment from culture.
Audiovisual activity in Mendoza continues in constant development and growth, thanks to the work being done by small and medium-sized Mendozan companies linked to the sector. These are production companies, studios, developers, educational institutions and organizations linked to creativity.
There is one reality and it is that we have qualities that set us apart from the rest. Such as the quality of artists and technicians, locations, landscapes and large numbers of sunny days. All this makes Mendoza “the place” chosen for filming.
On August 21, an agreement of mutual collaboration was signed so that Barrio Bombal becomes an audiovisual creative district that boosts not only the sector, but turns the neighborhood into a new attraction for those who choose Mendoza as a tourist alternative.
What is it about? The initiative aims to generate policies to attract businesses, shops and services related to creativity, art, architecture, design, advertising, video games and audiovisual content in order to build a highly attractive tourist, dining and commercial focal point. This means thinking about interventions in public spaces, in signage, in working together with the residents and shopkeepers of this district to give it identity, just as happens in other cities in the world that have similar districts. In that sense, work has been going on for some time to endow a part of the Metropolitan Area’s territory such as the Bombal as a space of resignification and contribution so that it becomes a creative district with an emphasis on the audiovisual industry, but also with an architectural and design heritage recovery.

In 2012, at Argency we created project 365, where we set ourselves the challenge of proposing one idea a day to sow and bet on the province. Some already carried out, others possible to carry out and others that seemed crazy, like creating an initiative to promote and drive Barrio Bombal. There we confirmed to ourselves that the fulfillment of dreams starts to come true and show itself when creativity and strength come together to think of Mendoza in a warmer, more productive, more receptive way, projected toward the new world.
After the good scenario and the global references such as Soho in London and New York, Palermo Hollywood in Buenos Aires or the barrio Italia in Santiago de Chile. We conclude on the importance of policies supporting culture and turning crises into opportunities. All of Mendoza should come together in pursuit of the success of this embryonic new cultural industry. What we once dreamed of for our beloved province is coming true.
