3 tips to succeed on social media in 2020
Users no longer look for large communities, but for relevant ones: less noise, more engagement.

We are entering a new decade, we have maps and many ideas for our commercial social media but will they work?
Users no longer look for large communities, but for relevant communities: less noise, more genuine engagement. This is the first trend of 2020 and it points mainly to being aware of the impact of social media on mental health, so companies will have to think first of all about a strategy that pursues the quality of the messages and not the quantity. That way, with valuable content, is how they will be able to position themselves and compete with the thousands of daily posts that users share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
What must a piece of content have to be considered quality on social media?
1- An image that catches the eye
2- Text that seduces in order to create a connection with the user
3- Using hashtags, call to action, creativity
4- A purpose; it is no use for it to only chase the fashionable discourse
Once the brand is clear about what it is going to communicate it will have to define how; for that we share these 3 tips:
Rethinking brands and their online presence
As we had already mentioned in a previous post, in 2020 companies will have to invest in technology and work with new technologies to drive online sales. This phenomenon is a total trend and some of its commercial effects can be seen in statements to Forbes by David Fischer, CRO (Chief Revenue Officer) at Facebook who this January warned that the next wave of innovations in messaging, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality will allow consumers to discover, explore and buy products more efficiently. According to Fisher this is going to challenge all the marketing practices we know today, given that augmented capabilities bring higher expectations with them. The challenge will lie in earning and keeping people’s particular trust.
Meanwhile, the brands that provide services will have to invest in artificial intelligence technologies (automation, chatbots and machine learning) to maximize their results and improve the consumer experience.
Looking for microinfluencers
It is a reality that almost half of consumers look for recommendations from an influencer before making a purchase. Seeing this situation, many brands, during 2019, invested in influencers and included them in their strategy. However, for this year the trend points to building ties between microinfluencers and brands, thinking about small communities. In addition, the key for brands will lie in building a sense of community within their consumer base that generates content about the products and services. The new generations do not only buy a product, but also the experience it provides.
Analyzing captions
Do we become defenders of long paragraphs or do we get to the point?
The first thing to consider is the social network we are thinking the content for. However, although styles change from one to another there are also conflicting positions within each one.
For example the latest discussions have to do with the length of captions on Instagram, and although each brand knows what suits it ( or is in the process of finding out) we have two big trends:
1- 125 characters are enough. That way the text is not shortened and is shown in full on smaller-sized screens and makes it possible to call the audience to action.
2- Long texts (up to 2200 characters or more) that really link the brand with personal experiences; that way the user will be able to feel identified, will connect with the content proposed and will respond to the call to action.
One thing is certain, captions matter . Making them attractive makes it possible for the reach of those posts to be greater, since Instagram’s algorithm detects that users spend more time viewing the content, and understands that it is relevant and valuable.
We hope these tips help our campaigns and yours stand out in online marketing in 2020. Let’s get to work!
