Five curiosities to celebrate Malbec in quarantine
We do advertising from Mendoza and Malbec is, subjectively, the best advertising for Mendoza.

Today we fill our glasses and share in a special way.
Every April 17 Argentina celebrates Malbec World Day to honor the varietal that made our country stand out in the winegrowing world. Mendoza’s plazas dye the water of their fountains with the violet colors that characterize this wine and tastings abound to discover or rediscover the flavors and aromas so characteristic that they enchant the world.
However, this year the global pandemic means that the communications of wine and of our flagship varietal are moved online. At Argency we prefer to see crises as opportunities, which is why we believe that in 2020 the traditional Malbec celebration will be able to reach further and that the opportunities to toast with a glass full of this varietal will multiply thanks to the globalization of communications.
And, just like the opportunities, the reasons also multiply. That is why we wanted to take the occasion to share some curious facts about Malbec, which can also be toasted to. Why? Because we do advertising from Mendoza and Malbec is, subjectively, the best advertising for Mendoza.
1- Malbec has about a thousand synonyms
Almost all varietals have synonyms, but Malbec (very widespread in the Middle Ages) has around a thousand documented synonyms. The most common are Côt Noir, Auxerrois and Pressac, but we can also find in the list name such as Medoc Noir, Queue Rouge, Agreste, Gourdaux, Negrera, among others.

2- It emerged in France

3- 85% of Malbec production corresponds to the province of Mendoza. Clearly, it is the most important one when it comes to the varietal. Luján de Cuyo is the department with the most Malbec and accounts for 22% of the total, while the whole Valle de Uco covers 40%, adding San Carlos, Tunuyán and Tupungato. The rest is divided between the eastern oasis and the south of the province. In this way, when it comes to expressing flavors, the weight of the regions mentioned is important.
4- What we can discover when tasting it

5- 3,329 meters (10,922 feet) is the height reached by the highest Malbec vineyard. Of course, it is in Argentina, planted in the town of Uquía, province of Jujuy. But when it comes to records, between the northernmost Malbec vineyard (Jujuy) and the southernmost (Chubut) in Argentina, there are 2,300 linear kilometers. They are extremes, of course, because the epicenter of Malbec is concentrated in an area around latitude 33º South.
